#UniteBehind says #ArrestZuma or #ArrestUs

On the 1st of November, a group of activists from the #UniteBehind coalition occupied the NPA Offices in Cape Town demanding that the NPA #ArrestZuma and honour the judgement of the Supreme Court of Appeal to reinstate the 783 counts of corruption, fraud, racketeering and money laundering levelled against him. The call was #ArrestZuma or #ArrestUs. After a long stand-off with security and the police, a group of eight activists made good on their demand, and were arrested and held overnight at Cape Town Central Police Station.

#UniteBehind had been consistent in its call for the ANC to recall Zuma. However, the most recent revelations of Zuma being bankrolled by Roy Moodley and his corrupt front companies left us with no choice but to escalate our call to direct action. Moodley’s corrupt dealings in the Siyangena contract, a contract meant to improve the security crisis at Metrorail, has directly cost lives.

Weeks had passed since the Supreme Court of Appeal ordered the reinstatement of charges related to the Arms Deal, yet Zuma had not been arrested. In giving him until November 30th to make new representations Shaun Abrahams and the Hawks have made a complete mockery of the constitutional duty to “prosecute without fear, favour and prejudice”. Now more than ever it falls upon the people of South Africa to achieve justice themselves.
