Course Description
Through knowledge, we empower civil society organisers to become bold, ethical leaders who drive meaningful change. With the skills, integrity, and vision to fix the state, they will lead the charge towards a just and equal society.
Through 6 months of in-depth learning under a political, ethical and people-centred framework, the PLE course will guide a cohort of 20 activists through a journey of transformation. The course is made up of 2x three month long modules covering:
- South Africa’s History
- Structures and Functions of Local and National Government
- English Language Literacy
- Movements in History and Current
Using literacy and writing as a tool of liberation, along with centering participants lived experiences, participants will have the opportunity to sharpen their activism, and improve their leadership and analytical skills.

Course Structure
- Duration: 6 months (Starting 6 May)
- Schedule: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
- Location: Methodist House, Cape Town
Weekly Schedule - Tuesdays: Comprehension, discussion, and literacy development
- Thursdays: Seminars, video screenings, and group discussion
Outcomes
- Participants will have the skills to become a knowledge base in their community
- Strong leadership and public speaking skills
- Strong reading and writing skills in the English language
- Be able to conduct independent research
- The ability to conduct political analysis and articulate informed positions in the form of writing or speech
- Hands-on organising experience and movement-building strategies
- The tools to contribute to and lead knowledge-based movements
